Hong Kong Team Captured Boccia Pairs Silver
The boccia Pairs events went on today (5 September), the eleventh day of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. In Mixed BC4 Pairs, LAU Wai Yan Vivian, LEUNG Yuk Wing and WONG Kwan Hang ended the hope of Portugal by winning 4-2 in semi-finals. The team was up against world No. 1 Slovakia and took a point in the opening set. Slovakia turned the deficit around in the next two set to win 3-1. Hong Kong team earned a point in the decider but that was not enough to clinched the title, losing 2-3 to bag a silver for Hong Kong.
While in boccia Mixed BC3 Pairs, HO Yuen Kei, LIU Wing Tung and TSE Tak Wah was beaten by South Korea 2-5 in semi-finals. They finally missed out of the podium spot after losing to Greece 0-7 in bronze medal match.
For badminton, CHU Man Kai eliminated Brazil’s Vitor Goncalves TAVARES 15-21, 21-18, 21-10 in Men’s SH6 Singles semi-finals and set up a final against India’s Vitor Goncalves TAVARES tomorrow (5 September) with a hope to strike gold. CHAN Ho Yuen, in Men’s WH2 Singles semi-finals, suffered at the hands of world No.1 player Jung Jun KIM from South Korea 21-15, 15-21, 15:21 and will meet another Korean shuttler Kyung Hoon KIM.
Long jumper Nikki TANG landed at 5.74m and took the eleventh place in Men’s Long Jump T20.
Hong Kong team, ranked 69th with 1 silver and 2 bronze at the moment, will join the closing ceremony tomorrow. Boccia team and athletics athlete Nikki TANG will return home with flight JL29 / CX6321 tomorrow morning and are expected to arrive at 1:40pm (Hong Kong time).
