Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Competition Day 10: Final Four Spots Claimed in Badminton Singles and Boccia Pairs Event

Hong Kong team continued to participate in badminton Men’s Singles preliminary rounds.  WH2 player CHAN Ho Yuen was beaten by Japan shuttler Daiki KAJIWARA 21-13, 12-21, 13-21 and moved on with 1-1 win-loss record.  He became the semi-finalist after sending Great Britain’s Martin ROOKE home 21-9, 21-11.  SH6 player CHU Man Kai suffered at the hands of world No.1 player Jack SHEPHARD of Great Britain 11-21, 24-22, 10-21.  Holding 1-1 win-loss record, CHU still to ranked first in group on game differential and advanced to semi-finals.

The remaining boccia Mixed Pairs pool events went on with BC3 players HO Yuen Kei, TSE Tak Wah and LIU Wing Tung lost to Brazil 3-5 and then won a thrilling match against Australia 3-3 (tie-break 1-0).  The team was qualified to semi-finals, ranking top in group with 3-1 win-loss record.  BC4 bowlers LAU Wai Yan Vivian, LEUNG Yuk Wing and WONG Kwan Hang went undefeatable in group to take convincing victories over Russian Paralympic Committee 8-2 and Thailand 5-1 and book their place in semi-finals with all four wins.

Hong Kong team will compete in athletics Men’s Long Jump T20 and semis of badminton Men’s WH2 and SH6 Singles, as well as boccia BC3 and BC4 Pairs tomorrow (4 September).
