WONG Ting Ting Clinched Bronze in Table Tennis Singles

On the forth competition day, table tennis player WONG Ting Ting was edged out by Elena PROKOFEVA of Russian Paralympic Committee 1-3 (11:9, 5:11, 6:11, 8:11) in Women’s Singles TT11.  Since there was not third place playoff, she clinched a bronze and also the Hong Kong’s first medal at the Games.

Wheelchair fencer YU Chui Yee marked her place in elimination round with four victories among five plays.  Unfortunately, she was eliminated by Chinese fencer Jing RONG 10-15 in the quarterfinals after enjoying a bye the round of 16.  She finished the event in sixth place.  Teammate NG Justine Charissa proceeded to round of 16 with 1-3 win-loss record, but was defeated by Eva Andrea HAJMASI of Hungary 10-15 and ranked 11th.  CHUNG Yuen Ping failed to advance with 1-5 win-loss record in group plays.

Boccia events commenced today (28 August), BC4 players LAU Wai Yan Vivian, LEUNG Yuk Wing and WONG Kwan Hang won their openers against Croatia’s Davor KOMAR 4-3, Russian Paralympic Committee’s Sergey SAFIN 3-1 and Great Britain’s representative Stephen McGUIRE 4-1 respectively.  YEUNG Hiu Lam proved to be too strong for her opponent, winning 7-1 against Rastislav KURILAK from Slovakia in BC2 individual group contest.  HO Yuen Kei and TSE Tak Wah sadly suffered at the hands of Hansoo KIM 2-4 and Howon JEONG 1-8.

NGAI Ka Chuen sent Iraq archer Sulaiman SULAIMAN home by giving a thrilling 140-138 win in Men’s Individual Compound Open round of 64.  But he was later eliminated by India’s Rakesh KUMAR 131-144 in the round of 32.

CHAN Yui Lam, CHEUNG Ho Ying, HUI Ka Chun and TANG Wai Lok clocked 4:00.86 in Mixed 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay S14 to rank fifth.

YAM Kwok Fan, crossing the line in 34.76,  failed to advanced to final of Women’s 200m T36 and took the 10th place.

Hong Kong Team will compete in boccia BC2, BC3, BC4 Individual pool matches, swimming Women’s 100m Breaststroke SB14 and wheelchair fencing foil team event.
