The second competition day of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games saw Hong Kong Team’s performance in wheelchair fencing and table tennis events. In wheelchair fencing Women’s Epee Individual Category A, YU Chui Yee proceeded to elimination round with three victories out of four and edged out Nataliia MANDRYK from Ukarine 15-10 in the round of 16. However, she lost to Jing RONG of China 11-15 in quarterfinals and ranked 6th. Teammate NG Justine Charissa booked her place in knockout rounds with two victories and two losses. Unfortunately, she was beaten by Zsuzsanna KRAJNYAK from Hungary 12-15 in the round of 16 and placed at 9th. CHUNG Yuen Ping finished the pool events with five losses out of six in Women’s Epee Individual Category B and took 13th.
WONG Ting Ting overcame Natalya KOSMINA from Ukraine 3-1 (11:7, 11:9, 8:11, 11:6) in second group match of table tennis Women’s Singles TT11, winning two straight matches in pool stage. NG Mui Wui was unable to repeat the feat and lost to current world No.1 player Elena PROKOFEVA from Russian Paralympic Committee 0-3 (9:11, 7:11, 7:11) in her second pool event. They will participate in their last pool contest, facing Japan’s Kanami FURUKAWA and Poland’s Krystyna LYSIAK tomorrow (27 August).
Hong Kong Team will compete in five sports in the third competition day (27 August), including archery Men’s Individual Compound Open Ranking Round, equestrians Mixed Dressage Individual Test Grade I & III, swimming Men’s & Women’s 200m Freestyle S14, table tennis Women’s Singles TT11 Pool events and wheelchair fencing Women’s Epee Team matches.
